Being happy isn’t as hard as it appears to be at times, at least that’s what I keep telling myself. Below I will cover 12 things that will increase your sense of happiness and make your life more fulfilling. Wait you do realize I mean actually doing these things will make you happier, not just the article right?
1. Social networks or relationships are essential to happiness. People are different, accept people for who or what they are, keep away from clashes, constant arguments, and let go of all kinds of resentments. If arguments seem inevitable still, try and make an effort to understand the situation and you might just get along well. If not staple their lips to their knees and every time they open their big mouth they’ll walk away!
2. Being thankful is a great attitude. We have so much to be thankful for. Taking time to thank those who provide even the smallest thing will help you realize how abundant your life is. If you don’t quite “Get this” come feed the homeless or visit a third world country for a week then read that again.
3. News is stressful. Get less of it. Unless of course we are all getting good publicity, in which case please watch.
4. Being part of a spiritual group (I’m thinking church not cults) with its singing/worshiping, prayers and meditations encourages inner peace. Being part of a small group (yes, you can be over 6 feet tall in be in a small group guys. I mean small, as in a few people, not their height! Man it isn’t easy working with people that bump their heads on doorways too often.) is important in many Christian churches.
5. Manage your time. Time is invaluable and too important to waste. You never get it back. Maybe that’s why I love my whole Cutting Edge Shortcuts Concepts.
6. Laugh and laugh vigorously everyday. Heard a good joke? Tell your friends or family about it. As they (whomever “they” are) say -’Laughter is the best medicine’. With my 3 kids and a wife with a great sense of humor it has been the best medicine for a miserable, bi-polar, brain-damaged, impatient entrepreneur like me… :-b
7. Communicate your feelings, affections, friendship and passion to people around you. I know, I know, all you macho-manly types don’t need to say anything…then I have to listen to you in the coffee shop complaining why your wife wants a divorce or you kids never call you.
8. Try not to keep pent up anger/ frustrations in, this is bad for your health. Instead find ways of expressing them in a way that will not cause more injury or hurt to anyone. Okay, I’ll summarize this using me as an example and let you draw some conclusions…I was considered as healthy as a professional athlete by 5 different doctors…….As they tried to figure out why my heart was stopping every couple of hours. I ended up with a Pacemaker and no definite Physical answers. Wanna take a Guess if I was a quiet, yet frustrated/angry person growing up?
9. Working hard brings great personal contentment. It gives a sense of being capable in finishing our tasks. Work on things that you feel are valuable of your time. Hence, why I don’t work on cars or build houses. Oh it would be valuable, but I said capable of finishing our tasks, I can read directions and still screw something up. I learned how to swear in Italian by watching my dad, who was a great handy man, get frustrated…I ain’t got those skills, but I do have that limited second language skill!
10. Learning is a joyful exercise. Try and learn something new each day. Learning also makes us increase our horizons. Of course eating 3 helping at dinner increases a different kind of horizon too. If I could get paid 6 figures a year just to learn everyday and then share it with others I’d be in heaven……Oh yea, That’s what this website is all about. I guess that explains the stupid smile on my face so often huh?
11. Run, jog, walk and do other things that your body was made for. Feel alive. I was never a runner but walking everyday is a minimum requirement for me. Another great reason to have a Dog too…to get exercise walking them. Sorry a little dog-lover oozed out of me there. We don’t have one yet, yet because my son has allergic reactions to some dogs and not others (Hypo-allergenic and otherwise).
12. Avoid exposure to negative elements like loud noises, toxins and hazardous places. Well maybe not the loud noises that come from the music I have cranked right now, I mean like horns blowing in traffic or constant banging of a construction site. ( spent many days in the steel mills with my dad and had a headache every time we got home.) I love Red Rock Canyon here in Vegas, great walks/hikes and peaceful. Contrast to The Las Vegas Strip and I’ll take the wilderness over the Wildness of city living any day.
Alright that’s 12, Now Leave me alone!
I gotta go yell at the kids, fight with my wife, and consume some toxins before I get too Happy….
